USA Win Battle for Internet Governance

The United States will keep control of the domain name system. The worlds governments in Tunis reached a compromise, just hours before the official opening of the World Summit on the Information Society.
The compromise forsees 2 major points:
1.A new Internet Governance Forum will be created. It will be set up in the first half of 2006 and decide upon public policy issues for the Internet. It will be made up of governments as well as private organisations and civil society. It will not have power over existing bodies such as ICANN. Its purpose would be to strengthen governments point of view on internet policy issues, including the domain name system. It would be convened by the UN secretary general Kofi Annan and have no power beyond the ability to bring together …
