Man Arrested for 911 Phone Calls about Mom Taking His Beer

Legally Weird / Findlaw.com: In most cases, someone taking your beer probably does not rise to the level of an emergency. But a Florida man made multiple 911 phone calls to report that his mother had taken his beer away.

Charles Dennison of New Port Richey, Fla., was arrested for allegedly calling the police to complain that his mother had taken his beer away from him. He is now facing criminal charges, the St. Petersburg Times reports.

Dennison, 32, was arrested and charged with making false 911 phone calls.

As previously discussed, according to Florida law, the 911 service can only be used by the public to report an emergency, and any other use, such as reporting a false alarm or false complaint, is a misdemeanor.

But it takes four such convictions for these actions to become a felony misuse of the 911 service.

The law states that it is criminal misuse to knowingly call 911 for any purpose other than obtaining public safety assistance.

This incident is similar to another Florida man who arrested on a charge of misuse of 911, as previously discussed in this blog.
