Brauchen wir eine auditive Kriminologie?

In seinem Beitrag zur Kulturgeographie im British Journal of Criminology (2012) widmet sich Keith Hayward auch dem akustischen Raum (“Soundscapes and acoustic spaces”) und entwirft ein Programm für eine Aural Criminology. Die auditive Kriminologie könnte sich – so Hayward – mit Ruhestörung als Form des anti-sozialen Verhaltens ebenso wie mit dem zivilen als auch militärischen Einsatz akustischer Signale zur Kriminalitätsprävention und der Musikfolter befassen. Auch die Beschäftigung mit Musik als Form des Protest und sozialen Widerstandes fiele in den Gegenstandsbereich der skizzierten Subdisziplin der Cultural Criminology ebenso wie Fragen der Medienwirkung, z.B. im Kontext der Rekrutierung von Soldaten aber auch Terroristen.

Outside the aural ecology of the city, numerous other developments precipitate the need for the development of an aural criminology. Consider the following examples, all of which crosscut criminological concerns: the everyday noise pollution associated with neighbour noise and other forms of anti-social behaviour; the use of infrasound crowdcontrol devices, acoustic torture and other military noise weapons (Goodman 2010); illegal pirate radio broadcasts and other sub rosa transmission cultures; the politics of rhythm associated with political protest and social resistance (Labelle 2010: 107–25); the role of music in military recruitment, as a tool for intensifying the battle experience (Pieslak 2009) and even as a means of garnering support for terrorism (Cottee 2011: 742–5); and even the way music functions as a ‘connective sonic fiction’, facilitating the transference of cultures, ideologies and morals that have nothing to do with material space.
