NYC statt Itzehoe:A former paralegal at Anderson Kill & Olick was indicted today for “pretending to be an attorney,” according to the Manhattan DA. Brian Valery was charged with grand larceny for stealing at least $284,350 in pay from the firm. The district attorney’s office detailed a colorful account of how Valery allegedly pulled the wool over on Anderson Kill in order to get promoted to attorney.

Valery, 32, started working at the firm in December 1996 as a paralegal making $21,000 a year. In the fall 1998, he told the firm he had enrolled in the evening program at Fordham Law and four years later said he had graduated, according to the DA. [...]
