The applicant, Hakan Sanatkar, is a Turkish national who was born in 1959 and lives in Dobroieşti, in Ilfov County (Romania). The case concerns his conditions of detention and the practice of his religion in prison.
In 1998 the applicant was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for attempted murder. He served his sentence in several Romanian prisons.
