Dokumentation: Mexican Narco Music

The music scene originated in the old cartel citadel of Mexico’s western Sinaloa state, and it’s an open secret that most of the artists identified with the genre are tied to the local cartel ...

TEENAGE - Official US Theatrical Trailer (HD)

IN US THEATERS - March 14th, 2014 http://www.teenagefilm.com/ -- TEENAGE Dir. Matt Wolf Featuring Jena Malone, Ben Whishaw, Julia Hummer, Jessie Usher OFFICIAL SELECTION: Tribeca Film Festival 2013 OFFICIAL SELECTION: HotDocs Int'l Film Festival 2013 Teenagers didn't always exist. They had to be invented. As the cultural landscape around the world was thrown into turmoil during the industrial revolution, and with a chasm erupting between adults and youth, the concept of a new generation took shape. Whether in America, England, or Germany, whether party-crazed Flappers or hip Swing Kids, zealous Nazi Youth or frenzied Sub-Debs, it didn't matter - this was a new idea of youth. They were all "Teenagers." A hypnotic rumination on the genesis of youth culture from the end of the 19th century to the first half of the 20th, Matt Wolf's TEENAGE is a living collage of rare archival material, filmed portraits, and diary entries read by Jena Malone, Ben Whishaw, and others. Inspired by Jon Savage's book and set to a shimmering contemporary score by Bradford Cox (Deerhunter / Atlas Sound), TEENAGE is a mesmerizing trip into the past and a riveting look at the very idea of "coming-of-age." Real-Life Big Brother: Secret NSA Data Centres And Global Surveillance

Naked Citizens - World: How online and CCTV surveillance data is being used to arrest 'terror suspects'. For downloads and more information visit: http://www.journey.webbler.co.uk/?lid=65226&bid=2 Increasing numbers of 'terror suspects' are being arrested on the basis of online and CCTV surveillance data. Authorities claim they act in the public interest, but does this intense surveillance keep us safer? "I woke up to pounding on my door", says Andrej Holm, a sociologist from the Humboldt University. In what felt like a scene from a movie, he was taken from his Berlin home by armed men after a systematic monitoring of his academic research deemed him the probable leader of a militant group. After 30 days in solitary confinement, he was released without charges. Across Western Europe and the USA, surveillance of civilians has become a major business. With one camera for every 14 people in London and drones being used by police to track individuals, the threat of living in a Big Brother state is becoming a reality. At an annual conference of hackers, keynote speaker Jacob Appelbaum asserts, "to be free of suspicion is the most important right to be truly free". But with most people having a limited understanding of this world of cyber surveillance and how to protect ourselves, are our basic freedoms already being lost? Narco Music is the Soundtrack to the Mexican War on Drugs (Part 1/3)

Watch Part 2 on VICE.com now: http://bit.ly/UkJBqZ Mexico's narcocorrido music genre and subculture openly celebrates the most extreme aspects of the country's drug war. The songs are filled with catchy, detailed narrations of beheadings, executions, coked-out nights, and a strangely consistent obsession with Buchanan's whiskey. With lyrics like "We're bloddy and a little twisted / We love killing / Mass kidnappings are the way they should be done / All my crew with gold-plated AKs / Shooting up their bodies until they fall to pieces / A sharpened knife on hand for beheadings," the movimiento alterado—literally the "altered movement"—is more of a "we're-fucking-crazy-and-we-will-cut-you-up" movement. The music scene originated in the old cartel citadel of Mexico's western Sinaloa state, and it's an open secret that most of the artists identified with the genre are tied to the local cartel. VICE went to Mexico to talk to some of the genre's major producers and see whether they're as hard as their songs suggest.
