Photovoltaic industry supports ENTSO-E’s call to address inadequate frequency disconnection settings of PV plants

On 28 July 2011, ENTSO-E published an open letter to Commissioner Oettinger encouraging the national regulatory authorities to address the issue of inadequate automatic frequency disconnection settings of installed photovoltaic (PV) panels in some European countries. EPIA, the voice of the photovoltaic industry in Europe and BSW the German photovoltaic association have equally highlighted this issue in respective letters to the Commission, supporting ENTSO-E’s call. In several European countries, connection standards applicable to inverter for photovoltaic panels and other distributed generation have been or are continuing to specify that the panels disconnect automatically from the grid whenever the system frequency reaches 0.2 or 0.3 Hz deviations from the required normal value of 50.0 Hz. These standards were imposed to PV plants at a time when cumulative PV installed capacity was marginal. However, the significant growth in photovoltaic systems in recent years, especially in countries like Germany and Italy, resulted in a PV installed capacity approaching 25,000MW ...Zum vollständigen Artikel
