Green Paper European Contract Law

The European Commission published a “Green Paper on policy options for progress towards a European Contract Law for consumers and businesses”. It intends to boost international trade by harmonising European contract law. The Commission's harmonisation plans have faced severe criticism from both consumer and business organisations. Market integration by harmonisation of private law has been a much debated topic for years, and numerous measures have been implemented on a European level. In the past, such legislation was of a rather piecemeal, fragmentary character and limited to specific areas of law.
